TVFD members complete Wildland Firefighting Certification
By Battalion Chief Darryl Romig
March 28, 2025
5 members of the TVFD completed their certification (and recertification) to become Wildland Firefighters. This certification combines multiple online classes and in station training totaling about 25 hours. Classes completed were: L-110 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service S‐130 ‐ Firefighter Training S‐190 ‐ Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior IS‐700 ‐ National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction ICS‐100 ‐ Introduction to the Incident Command System These Firefighters completed multiple stations, including cutting fire containment lines, drafting from multiple pieces of apparatus, backfiring operations awareness, fire shelter deployment, advanced hose lines, and team building skills. This achievement allows them to assist DCNR on large scale Wildland incidents across the southeastern part of Pennsylvania. Engine 69-5 stood by to supply water for the skills station and respond to any emergencies that occurred in the local. Wildland fires include any type or terrain of vegetation fires. About 15 TVFD members are working to achieve this goal due to the large areas of dense woodlands that are in the TVFD local or mutual aid coverage including French Creek State Park and Warwick County park.
