In the midst of the first snowstorm of the year, the TVFD was alerted to the Eastbound section of the PA Turnpike for an accident. Utility 69-1 and Rescue 69 made the response and were advised by the turnpike of a tractor trailer over the embankment overturned with entrapment. Upon arrival the crews set up ropes down to the truck cab and started extrication on the driver. Utility 69-3 and Engine 69-1 responded and accessed the scene via a local farm field along with Engine 48-1 (additional manpower due to extended extrication time) additional paramedics and EMS units. Upon extrication of the driver, the focus shifted to locating a possible passenger. Crews removed parts of the sleeper cab and located the patient trapped in the rear corner of the sleeper bunk. Our condolences to the family of the patient who succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, and prayers for a speedy recovery to the patient transported to the local trauma center.
