Quick Work in Mountain View
By Battalion Fire Chief Jeffrey Cook
March 6, 2010
At 8:50PM The Department along with Station 33(Honey Brook) and Station 48 for an engine(Glenmoore) were dispatched for a reported house on fire in the 200 block of Merwood drive in Honey Brook Township.
Chief 69(K. Romig) responded and was advised from the Chester County fire board that a neighbor called and reported the house across the street from her house was on fire.
Chief 69 arrived and found a 2-1/2 story, with heavy smoke showing from the front of the house. Chief 69 then established "Merwood Drive Command"
The Chief advised Ladder 69 upon arrival that it appeared that only the front porch was on fire. The Ladder arrived with 5 volunteers and took the front of the house. The truck crew led off with the CAFS can and knocked the bulk of the fire down in seconds on the front porch. As the fire was getting knocked with the CAFS can, the rest of the crew pulled a 150' 1-3/4" bumper line.
Engine 69-5 arrived and its crew was advised to go into the house and check for any extension, results proved to be negative on any fire getting into the house.
The rest of the units responding in were instructed to proceed in under reduced rate. Engine 48-1 was instructed to relocate to the Twin Valley Fire Department to cover any other emergencies that came in. Engine 48-1 did run a medical local at the sheetz store for a burned subject from a radiator.
